Are you an explorer? Do you enjoy experimenting? Do you enjoy entertaining new ideas, and finding fresh approaches to your usual or routine experiences? Yes! Yes! Yes! That’s me!
I love to explore, and I thoroughly enjoy entertaining ideas. Both in my personal life and my professional life as a business owner, I find I need to make space for this kind of activity.
Additionally, working virtually with clients requires me to stay informed and up-to-date (is that even possible – okay, reasonably so!) regarding the technologies that might affect my business and service delivery. (Aha! Yes, that theme certainly provides incentive for me to explore new business-related tools!)
As a volunteer within the AssistU community, I facilitate a group whose aim is to explore new business-related tools together. I find that I am highly motivated when I have a partner or group with which to collaborate.
The good thing is that I enjoy investigating and I love discovering fresh ways of accomplishing things. What about the not-so-good part? You may have guessed already, it’s making the space and carving out time to accomplish this. My busy schedule can make this a daunting task for sure.
What works for me as I explore new tools is to keep in mind:
A little exposure to this tool or software is better than none, and creates familiarity.
I do not need to reach a deep level of proficiency while exploring.
Collaborating with other like-minded explorers is fun and helpful!
I do not need to invest much money as most tools have trial versions available (many are free!).
I can walk away from the experience at any time (almost any time – we choose a new tool for our focus each month).
There are other benefits, I'm sure. How does it work for you? I’d love to hear -- do tell!
